As part of the grand opening ceremony for the Mushroom Shed project, I worked with SUNY Ulster graphic design students to develop a map that led people from the Dorsky Museum of art to the Mushroom Shed. I held a community walking tour during the duration of the exhibition that followed the map from the museum to the shed, stopping at the local businesses involved in the project along the way. We stopped at Village Grind Cafe, a core collaborator in the mushroom project who provides us with spent coffee grounds. Village Grind created a mushroom syrup additive for coffee and mushroom scones for the opening festival. Bacchus Brewery provides us with spent brewery grains and brewed a Chaga mushroom and Thyme beer for the festival. During the tour we stopped at each map destination including these businesses to have a sample of their mushroom themed drinks and foods and to get to know the community collaborators.
